How to Make Your Own Sports Shirt

From tailgating before the big game to cheering from the stands, sporting your team's memorabilia is a must. Jerseys and t-shirts can be found online or at sporting venues, but can be extremely pricey. Don't let these high costs prevent you from representing your favorite team. Instead, make your own sports shirt in as little as an afternoon. You can transform a plain t-shirt into a custom piece of team spirit memorabilia.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a design for the front of your t-shirt using your computer. While you cannot use the official team logo or pictures that are protected by copyright, you can use a word processor to make your own design. Use your team's colors or pictures of sporting equipment. Be creative in designing your own logo.

Print the design on fusible printer paper. Using scissors, cut out the design. Cut as close to the design as possible so that a large border does not get transferred onto the front of the t-shirt. Follow the directions on the package of fusible printer paper to properly iron on the design to the front of the shirt.

    • 3

Sketch out jersey numbers onto a piece of fabric using a pencil and ruler. Attach the fusible webbing to the fabric with an iron. After the fabric has cooled completely, attach the numbers to the back side of your t-shirt. Center the numbers in the middle of the shirt as they appear on a jersey. Iron on numbers according to the directions on the fusible webbing.

Use iron-on letters to attach your name. Center the letters of your name on the back side of your t-shirt so that they stretch across your shoulders. Follow the directions on the package when ironing the letters in place. The back of the t-shirt should now look like a jersey.

Use puffy fabric paint to outline the elements of your design. Using fabric paint will help seal the design elements into place. Allow the paint to fully dry before wearing the shirt.
