Swim Team Bulletin Board Ideas

Swim teams take organization, dedication and drive to perform well. Organization is key to keeping things running smoothly, particularly since a team involves not only the athletes but also the family, fans and supporters. A swim team bulletin board is an easily accessible and central focal point that helps keep all participants aware of coming events. It is also another way to acknowledge and celebrate accomplishments.
  1. Calendar of Upcoming Events

    • List upcoming events on a bulletin board, such as swim meet locations and arrival times, fundraisers, award ceremonies and special team activities. This will provide a central and accurate place to look for necessary information. Although fliers and notes are usually sent home, they can get lost. A bulletin board is a secondary way to allow all participants to find the details they need.

Highlight activities with photos, bright letters, artwork and 3-D items such as balloons to catch the eyes of passersby. Change the information and decor regularly to keep it current. Update the calendar weekly during the active swim season.

    Awards and Achievements

    • After all the dedication and hard work swimmers put into their contributions to the swim team, it is nice to acknowledge individual and team accomplishments. If the team is made of different age groups, feature two swimmers of the week from each age group---one for competition results and another for a personal achievement in swimming. Do not only choose the swimmers who place high in competitions; include those who are showing marked improvement or who have broken a personal goal. Use background paper to highlight and frame the written achievement, as well as any available photos of the participants.

Celebrate team wins and accomplishments to spur on team spirit by posting scores, team times and individual times from each swim meet. It's a great way to gauge improvement and standings. You may need a separate board just for weekly results.

    Photo Blog

    • Take photos at practices, team rallies and swim meets. Ask for interesting photo contributions from other participants. Highlight a particular race or group each week. Note in captions the meaning of each photograph and who is featured in the picture. Make the display serious or humorous or use it as a teaching tool to show moves and areas that need improvement. Highlight great examples.

Add cutouts, pictures or drawings of the team mascot and logo at the top of the bulletin board.

Do not forget how many volunteers it takes to help keep a swim team running. Highlight a couple of volunteers each week to acknowledge appreciation of their efforts.
