How to Remove an XD 40 Locking Block

The Springfield XD in .40 caliber is a handgun manufactured in Croatia and released in the U.S. for law-enforcement and civilian use. The XD is a polymer-framed pistol that relies on a striker to fire ammunition. All XD pistols contain a large locking block inside the frame. This device provides a track for the slide, and prevents the slide from flying back at the user after firing. The block holds back a massive amount of force generated by recoil, so it's important to make sure the locking block is in good condition before use. Removing the block can help you inspect it for damage, or aid in cleaning.
