1
Point the gun in a safe direction, away from all people and animals. Move the safety switch down until the "S" is visible on the side of the slide.
-
2
Pull the slide back until it stops. Press up on the slide stop, located just above the trigger on the left side of the slide. Press the magazine-ejection button on the left side of the frame to remove the magazine.
-
3
Check the chamber to make sure it is empty. If it is not, rack the slide back and forth several times to clear the round.
-
4
Insert your finger in the chamber opening. Press down and forward on the metal ejector until it locks in place.
-
5
Press down on the slide-stop lever while holding the slide tightly in one hand. Allow the slide to move slowly forward until it stops.
-
6
Press hard on the stub that extends from the right side of the slide stop. This releases the slide stop on the left. Pull the slide slightly forward until the vertical marks on the left side of the frame are aligned. Pull firmly on the left side of the slide stop until it pulls out about 2 inches and stops. Do not attempt to completely remove the slide stop.
-
7
Pull the slide forward until it catches on the guide rod. Turn the gun upside down, lift up the guide rod and remove it from the barrel lug. Pull out the spring and guide rod.
-
8
Place the new Wolff spring inside the guide rod. Press the assembly in place under the barrel lug. Use two hands to pull the spring back as it slides in place with the barrel lug.
-
9
Place the slide back on the top of the frame. Align the grooves on the sides of the slide with the grooves on the top of the frame.
-
10
Pull the slide back until the open notch is aligned with the slide stop. Press the slide stop toward the frame until it snaps in place. The stub on the right side of the frame must be exposed.
-
11
Press down on the slide stop and allow the slide to move all the way forward. Replace the magazine.
