How to Install Pungo Kayak Knee Pads

The inner cavity of your Pungo kayak is where your body sits and your legs extend in front of you. When there is a lot of room on the underside of the deck, you can find yourself knocking your knees and thighs along it. This is especially true when you are in rougher waters where you need to stabilize yourself. Installing knee pads to the underside of the deck helps reduce bumps and bruises while kayaking. Knee pads come in many shapes and sizes to fit inside a Pungo kayak.

Instructions

    • 1

Sit in your Pungo kayak. Position the pads to give your knees and thighs the most protection. Mark the pad position.

    • 2

Apply a layer of contact cement on the kayak where the pad will be positioned. Also apply a layer of contact cement on the underside of the pad. Do not put the pads in the kayak yet. Allow the contact cement to dry.

    • 3

Apply a second layer of contact cement on the first, both on the kayak and the pads. Allow this layer to dry.

    • 4

Position the pad in place over the contact cement. Be careful to place it exactly where you want it before pressing it in place. Once you make contact, the bond will set between the contact cement layers and you will not be able to adjust the pads.
