How to Install Yakima Rain Gutter Towers

Yakima produces a range of racks designed to transport bikes, kayaks, canoes and other gear. Hitch, trunk and roof mounts are designed to secure your gear in place and provide a safe means of transportation to your destination. Yakima roof base racks feature risers or towers that attach to the vehicle and support crossbars. The towers can attach to factory rails or the rain gutters of the vehicle. As with most of Yakima's products, installing the rain gutter towers is designed to be simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Loosen the sheer block bolt with a wrench so that the crossbars can easily slide through the towers. Slide the crossbar through two towers and insert caps on both ends of the bar. Position the towers so that the adjustment knob and clamp are facing out.

    • 2

Place the towers and crossbar assembly on the roof of your vehicle. Position the towers so that the foot is inside the rain gutter and the clamp is on the outside of the gutter.

    • 3

Position the towers so that they are the same distance from the top of the windshield. Use a tape measure to determine the correct and even placement. Pull the top of the tower out slightly and tighten the sheer block bolt on both towers with a wrench. Thread a hand knob onto the the side of the tower and do not overtighten.

Repeat the steps for the rear towers and crossbar. Make sure to position the towers of the rear rack the same distance from the top of the rear window. Tighten the sheer block bolt and install the hand knobs.
