How to Make Your Own Steel Target
Making your own steel target for practice helps reduce the cost of buying cardboard and paper targets. Steel targets last a long time and can be made in any shape you want. The process for making the target is simple and takes less than a half hour to complete. The quality and thickness of the steel determine how much life the target has. In addition, the type of ammo used will determine how much damage is inflicted on the target.
Things You'll Need
- Sheet of steel
- Jigsaw with metal cutting blade
- Marker
- Metal sander

Draw a design for the target on the sheet of steel. It can be any design -- a person, animal or circle.

Cut out the design using a jigsaw fitted with a metal cutting blade. A normal wood blade will get damaged by the steel.

Use a metal sander to smooth the edges of the cut steel.

Paint a target on the steel and mount it.
