How to Make Your Own Steel Target

Making your own steel target for practice helps reduce the cost of buying cardboard and paper targets. Steel targets last a long time and can be made in any shape you want. The process for making the target is simple and takes less than a half hour to complete. The quality and thickness of the steel determine how much life the target has. Things You'll Need

  • Sheet of steel
  • Jigsaw with metal cutting blade
  • Marker
  • Metal sander

      Draw a design for the target on the sheet of steel. It can be any design -- a person, animal or circle.

      Cut out the design using a jigsaw fitted with a metal cutting blade. A normal wood blade will get damaged by the steel.

      Use a metal sander to smooth the edges of the cut steel.

      Paint a target on the steel and mount it.
