How to Load a Kel-Tec P3AT

The Kel-Tec P3AT is a semi-automatic pistol chambered for the .380 auto cartridge. It has a six-round magazine capacity and double-action-only trigger mechanism. The barrel and slide of the P3AT are 4140 ordnance steel and its frame is 7075-T6 aluminum. With a 2.7-inch barrel and an overall length of only 5.2 inches, the handgun is primarily designed as a concealed backup weapon for law enforcement or licensed citizens. Kel-Tec markets the P3AT as the lightest .380 auto pistol in production.

      Press the magazine catch button on the left side of the grip and release the magazine.

      Push a .380 auto cartridge down on the spring-loaded magazine follower and slide it back so it locks beneath the retaining lips of the magazine.

      Repeat the procedure until the magazine contains six rounds of ammunition.

      Tap the rear of the magazine lightly against the palm of your hand to align the rounds in the magazine.

      Point the pistol in a safe direction and keep your finger away from the trigger.

      Insert the loaded magazine into the grip, pushing it up until it locks firmly in place.

      Pull the slide all the way back and release it to load the first round into the chamber.
