How to Attach a Leather Sling to an M1A

The M1A rifle is made with a set of swivel stud attachments for the use of slings. Leather slings have an aesthetic preferred by many firearm enthusiasts, and one in particular -- the Triple-K -- is recommended for the M1A. Use the swivel stud attachments on the rifle to secure the leather sling to the firearm. Handle the weapon like it is "hot", meaning loaded, at all times to prevent accidents.

Instructions

    • 1

Point the rifle in a safe direction and make sure the safety is engaged. Turn the rifle over to find the swivel studs on the base of the stock and barrel.

    • 2

Thread the narrow end of the leather sling to the swivel slit on the rear-end of the M1A, near the underside of the butt. Depending on your sling, either snap it together at the slit or thread and buckle it down.

    • 3

Stretch the sling along the underside of the rifle up to the point where the barrel meets the end of the stock and move up about two inches to find the dedicated swivel stud.

    • 4

Insert the slit in the leather sling onto the swivel stud then pull back firmly to engage and secure the sling onto the rifle.

    • 5

Place the sling up and onto your shoulder, with the wide point over your shoulder. Adjust the sling to your preferred length using its dedicated lengthening device (most have sliders).
