How to Repair an Instep Bicycle Trailer Cover

The Schwinn Instep Bicycle Trailer is made for parents who are active and want to bring the kids along with them during bicycle rides. The carriage is surrounded by Cordura nylon and clear plastic paneling. An open front provides a wind-in-your-face experience for the toddlers as your pedal along your journey. Repairs to the Instep cover are done according to standard Cordura patching methods.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cover from the trailer. Isolate the rip or tear and cut out a patch out of the Cordura patching fabric 1 inch larger in diameter than the damaged area on the cover. Use a cutting board to get clean cuts.

    • 2

Pull the rip or tear together as best as possible, and use the transparent sewing tape to keep it together as you prep the patch.

    • 3

Place the damaged area of the cover so the interior is facing up.

    • 4

Smear the seam sealer over the back of the Cordura patch. Begin heating the iron to a mid-level heat setting. While the iron is heating, place the patch with the glue-side down onto the damaged area on the cover. Leave the tape in place.

    • 5

Iron the patch on the damaged area for 30 to 45 seconds. Place a heavy, flat weight onto the patched area and leave overnight.

    • 6

Remove the weight and place the cover back onto the Instep trailer.
