How to Attach a Crank to a Crossbow

A crossbow looks like a hybrid between a rifle and an archery bow. Crossbows have a lateral bow in the front of what looks like a rifle stock. The bow string gets cocked in such a way that it rests near the rear of the rifle stock. Because many crossbow strings are under tremendous pressure, it takes a strong arm to cock them. As a means of easing the strain of cocking, install a crossbow crank. A crank operates with a handle, similar to a fishing reel, that pulls the string back with mechanical advantage, making the task easier on your arms.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the rubber shock absorber from the rear stock of the crossbow. This is a rubber piece on the back of the butt-end of the stock. Use a Phillips or flathead screwdriver, depending on what kind of screws are encountered.

    • 2

Align the crank's screw threads to the exposed screws on the end of the crossbow stock. Place the gasket-shock absorber back onto the screws and tighten together.

    • 3

Position the crank hooks to the side of the crossbow stock for transport when not using same to crank back the string. Many cranks come with small mounts for the hooks. If your crank has the mounts, attach them to the side of the crossbow stock.

Remove the hooks from the mounts and hook them to the crossbow string when ready to crank it back to cock the weapon.
