How to Remove Nocks From Crossbows
Nocks are found on arrows for standard archery and on the specialized bolts or quarrels used on crossbows. Nocks are the small plastic ends to the bolts. This is where the crossbow string is placed, allowing the bolt to stay in a semi-static position until the trigger is pulled. Occasionally a nock is not attached to the bolt properly, causing it to remain stuck on the crossbow string after the bolt is launched. The secret to removing the nock is in getting it off without having to unstring the crossbow.
Things You'll Need
- Quarter or flat edge
- Scalpel or small carving blade

1
Leave the crossbow string in the neutral and uncocked position. Slide the nock up and down the string as far as you can with your fingers. Turn the nock around and around the string to loosen the grip on the string.
-
2
Pry the nock off the string, if possible, using a quarter or flat edge. Do not let the flat edge cut or damage the crossbow string. Without touching the string itself, get the edge into the nocks and then pry them apart, hopefully freeing the string in the process.

3
Trim down the nock edges with the scalpel, again being sure not to touch the string. Once the nock is trimmed down, pull the string out from the nock.
