How to Quiet a Hydration Pack

Hydration packs let you carry lots of water with the weight distributed over your back. One of the annoying aspects to hydration packs is the noise the water makes as you move about, making it slosh and jiggle. There are some simple solutions that help reduce the noise generated by the bladders. Taking a few simple steps to quiet the hydration pack's bladder also helps keep the sloshing water more centered on your back, and keeps the weight more evenly distributed.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the bladder all the way, even if you do not think you need that much fluid. The fuller the bladder, the less movement takes place inside the bladder.

    • 2

Pack your extra layers of clothing around the hydration bladder to prevent the bladder and water from moving as much.

    • 3

Suck the excess air out of the bladder after each sip or drink you take. Keeping air out of the bladder helps prevent excess sloshing in the bladder, thus reducing the noise generated in the bladder.

    • 4

Wrap the sipping hose with a neoprene sleeve. This insulates the water and helps keep any slurping noises to a minimum.
