How to Determine the Slope of a Ramp
Ramps for skateboarding, snowboarding or any form of similar recreation will have a slope angle. Knowing the slope angle helps you make decisions regarding stunts, speeds and drop-out technique after the stunt is executed. Finding the slope of a ramp is a very simple task when you are equipped with a simple inclinometer, a device that measure the slope angle. Inclinometers are available at climbing and mountaineering stores.

1
Place the inclinometer so it is parallel to the slope. Keep the curvature of the plumb bubble facing up from the slope.
-
2
Look at the side of the inclinometer to see where the gauge line rests. Let the inclinometer rest on the ramp for a few seconds to calibrate the line gauge.
-
3
Read the slope angle, in degrees on the gauge. For example, if the gauge line is at the 17 mark, the slope of the ramp is 17 degrees.
