River Safety Rules
The water levels on a river can change quickly with excessive amounts of rain or snow. By following basic river safety rules, you can help insure your safety and the safety of those around you.
-
Boat Safety
-
Always wear a life jacket that fits properly. Stay seated and avoid horseplay while you are in a boat.
Swimming Safety
-
Only swim in areas that are marked for this activity. Wear protective footwear to protect your feet from glass or other debris.
Fishing Safety
-
Know the depth of the water before you wade out. Handle your equipment with care; hooks and other equipment can cause injuries if you fall on them.
Rafting or Kayaking Safety
-
Wear a life jacket and helmet. Know how to recognize and react to the changes in the river. Always have a first aid kit in case of emergency.
Child Safety
-
Children should never be left unsupervised near the water. Children always need to wear a life jacket. Supervising adults should know how to perform CPR.
