Florida Bicycle Tours

Plenty of vacationers are happy to spend their days lounging on Florida's beaches or braving the theme park crowds in Orlando, but what about those who want something different? If you are heading to Florida and want to surround yourself with the state's stunning Everglades, ocean views or historic areas while also staying active, a bicycle tour could be the perfect solution. There are a variety of outfits offering bicycle tours around Florida, ranging from a few hours to a full week.

  1. One-Day Rides

    • If you are only in Florida for a few days and have a busy agenda, a one-day ride will allow you to experience some of Florida's beauty without overfilling your schedule. Naples Bicycle Tours offers 2.5-hour rides either around historic Old Naples and along the waterfront, or through the Naples-area Everglades. They provide everything you need, including guides, bikes, helmets, water and snacks. Naples Bicycle Tours also offers 3 to 3.5-hour road and trail tours for those desiring faster, higher-mileage rides. Single-day rides are available in the Miami/South Beach area through Bike and Roll. Choose from several guided rides, or rent a bike and follow one of the Bike and Roll ride maps on your own.

    Lodging Tours

    • For a longer cycling experience, Bike Florida and Gulf Coast Tours offer tours ranging from five days to a week. Bike Florida offers a seven-day, six-night, late-winter tour called "St. John's River-to-Sea Loop," which is a 260-mile circular route that covers vastly varied areas of the state. The tour includes sightseeing with specialist guides, restaurant dinners and lodging at inns or bed & breakfasts. Gulf Coast Tours offers several five-day, four-night bicycle tours throughout the year, which include either camping or hotel stays, breakfasts and dinners, and a 20-minute complimentary massage. The tours begin in Cross City and wrap up at the Suncoast Trail in Hudson, covering 35 to 45 miles daily.

    Specialized Tours

    • For a bike tour with a twist, try one of Florida's specialty tours, such as Senior Cycling or BubbaFest's "pampered" cycling tour. Designed specifically for "old folks on spokes," Senior Cycling sponsors tours in the Florida Keys as well as along the central Florida rail trails. Tours are open to active adults 50 and older. Alternatively, bikers who prefer comfort, convenience and fun over hard-core bicycling will enjoy BubbaFest, a late-fall tour through the Florida Keys. BubbaFest includes ocean-side, resort-style camping; flat, easy daily rides with a wide variety of scenery and activities and gourmet meals. Optional "pampering" is also available. This features high-end tents and real beds for camping at an additional fee.
