How to Find the VIN for Your Yamaha Timberwolf

All vehicles manufactured after 1978, including ATVs like the Yamaha Timberwolf, include a 17-character vehicle identification number (VIN). The VIN is not only a unique identifier for the Timberwolf, it identifies vehicle characteristics including the year the Timberwolf was manufactured, the specific model and the options such as the engine size. The VIN is also required to register the Timberwolf in many states. The VIN can be in several places, depending upon the year the Timberwolf was made. Be aware that the number stamped on the Timberwolf motor is not the VIN.

Instructions

    • 1

Look for the VIN on the left side of the frame. The VIN is located on the frame, almost right behind the driver's side front or rear wheel. You might need to turn the wheels to see it.

    • 2

Search for the Yamaha Timberwolf VIN on the frame rail under the motor.

    • 3

Locate the VIN on the frame near the A-Arm mounts.

    • 4

Find the VIN stamped on the horizontal rail behind the Timberwolf's brush guard.

    • 5

Search for the Timberwolf VIN on other parts of the frame---on top of the steering shaft or behind the air filter housing.
