How to Determine the Correct Height for a Bike Seat

Riding a bike is an enjoyable activity for all ages. It's also an excellent way to get your daily exercise. However, before you start riding a bike as part of your daily routine, you should take time to find the right bike for your age, size and needs. Not all bikes will work for the activities you're planning or for your body type and size. For example, you should take time to determine the correct height for your bike seat and make sure the bike you choose can accommodate that height.

Instructions

Test out the bike. The best way to determine the proper seat height is by getting on the bike and giving it a little test drive.

    • 2

Pedal the bike. When your feet are on the pedal and one leg is all the way down, that knee should be slightly bent. If your knee is very bent or locked, your seat position is wrong.

Pay attention to your other leg, as well. According to Bicycle Universe, when one leg is almost straight, the other leg will be bent at the knee. However, the top of your leg should never be straight and level. Instead, it should be angled slightly downward.
