1
Put on your safety gear. Stand with your inline skates parallel, a little less than shoulder width apart.
-
2
Keep your back straight and bend your knees slightly. This will allow you to look over your shoulder by turning your head fully to the right or left and turning your torso slightly in the same direction. Look over your shoulder the entire time you are skating backwards. It is important to see where you are going to avoid falls.
-
3
Angle the toes of your skates toward each other, making an “A” shape with your feet.
-
4
Push your feet toward the outside of your skates with your toes. Your feet will start to move farther apart as you move backwards.
-
5
Push with your heels on the inside of your skates when your legs are a little more than shoulder width apart. This will continue to move you backwards and draw your legs closer together.
-
6
Alternate Steps 4 and 5 to continue skating backwards. When your feet are close together, push out with your toes. When your feet are apart, push in with your heels. This will keep you moving backwards. Remember to keep looking behind you to avoid falling.
