How to Balance on Rollerblades
Instructions
-
-
1
Understand that balancing on rollerblades is different from balancing on ice or roller skates. The techniques and equipment are different.
-
2
Start on softer surfaces. Go to a local rink where they have padded walls and handrails that can help balance and prevent injury. Or start on a carpeted surface like the living room of your house.
-
3
Ask a friend or family member that has experience rollerblading to assist you.
-
4
Put on only one rollerblade and stand on it to get used to the feel of it. You can use the other foot for support.
-
5
Stand with both rollerblades on. Then slowly let go of any means of support. Lean slightly forward with your feet side-by-side about four to six inches apart. Also, bend your knees slightly and put your arms in front of you to absorb any potential fall.
-
6
Utilize the braking system on the rollerblades, usually located in the heel, if you lose balance. If there is any confusion about how to brake, please consult the owner's manual, because you must know how to brake.
-
7
Attempt to walk on the rollerblades before trying to skate on them.
