How to Install a 144 Harken Cam Swivel Base

Keeping sailing ropes adjusted to the right length and properly secured can mean the difference between smooth sailing and dangerous disorganization on deck. Cam cleats allow you to secure a rope in place with quick-release cams that release the ropes when needed. Harken manufactures the 144 cam swivel base for mounting cam cleats. You can install it on your vessel in a few steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the location for the Harken 144 cam swivel base. Choose a location with access to the rope you wish to secure, but one that will not interfere with the movement or operation of nearby lines.

    • 2

Hold the Harken 144 cam swivel base against the vessel in the desired location.

    • 3

Drive four #10 (5mm) screws through the four screw holes in the swivel into the surface of the vessel, using a power drill and driver bit. Stop drilling when the swivel becomes immobile.

    • 4

Loosen the four screws slightly with a screwdriver until the swivel begins to move. The swivel should have enough tension that it remains secure but can move slowly.
