1
Remove the guard around the crown, which is the control on the edge of the watch at the 3 o'clock position, and push the crown in to start the watch. Pull the crown out to the middle, second, position and turn it until the correct date appears in the small window at the 6 o'clock position. Pull the crown out to the furthest, third, position and turn it to set the correct time. Push the crown in.
-
2
Adjust the indicator hand by pulling the crown out to the third position. If the indicator hand does not point to 12 o'clock, press one of the buttons either side of the crown. The button below the crown is the "Tide" button, and pressing it moves the hand clockwise. The button above the crown is the "Temp" button, and the indicator hand moves counter-clockwise when you press it. Press and hold the button to make the indicator hand move faster. Push the crown in to the first position when the indicator hand points to 12 o'clock.
-
3
Set the tide clock by pulling the crown out to the second position. Press either the "Tide" or "Temp" button to move the indicator hand clockwise or counter-clockwise respectively until it shows the current tide. The inner tide scale indicates the number of hours to the next high or low tide.
-
4
Calibrate the compass in the area where you expect to use it. Place the watch on a level surface and pull the crown out to the second position. Press the "Compass" button on the left edge of the watch. Keep the watch level and slowly rotate it twice. You should take at least 15 seconds to complete each revolution. Press any of the push buttons. When the indicator hand stops moving, turn the outer compass ring until "N" is at the 12 o'clock position.
-
5
Set the declination angle. Press the "Tide" or "Temp" buttons to move the indicator hand to the declination scale either side of "N" on the compass ring. For the east coast of America set the declination angle to 15 degrees west, and for the west coast set the angle to 18 degrees east. These are approximate angles and the exact angles for major cities are available from the Timex site. Push the crown in when you have set the angle.
-
6
Hold the watch level and press the "Compass" button to activate the compass for 20 seconds. Turn the watch so that 12 o'clock points to your direction of travel and turn the compass ring until the indicator hand lines up with "N." You are heading in the direction shown on the ring at 12 o'clock.
