How to Skateboard on Lubricated Surfaces

The key to skateboarding is good balance. A skateboarder should be comfortable with his board no matter what surface he is skating on. Skateboarding on a lubricated surface is more difficult because it is slippery. However, with the right technique and caution, you will be able to adapt to this kind of surface.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure that you are wearing all the needed protective gears before using your skateboard.

    • 2

Wear your skateboard shoes. Although you can wear ordinary shoes, skateboard shoes are designed specifically for skateboarding. Skateboard shoes have large and flat bottoms that give your feet a better grip on the board. They are also built in such a way that they do not slip off your board whenever you perform tricks.

    • 3

Stand on your skateboard, and find your balance. Kick from the ground to start moving with your skateboard. Do not kick too hard yet as you try to get accustomed with the lubricated surface.

    • 4

Do a “kick-turn” and see if you can successfully do it on the slippery surface. To do this, use your foot to apply force on the tail of the board while you use your other foot to move the skateboard nose to the direction you want. Do it slowly on your first try. If the surface is too slippery, avoid doing it again.

    • 5

Drag your foot to the ground to do a quick “foot-brake” and avoid crashing. The slippery surface can be difficult to deal with so a quick foot-brake will allow you to stop the skateboard safely.

    • 6

“Bail” out or jump off your skateboard if you are about to crash and there’s not enough time to do a foot break. Be careful where you land to avoid further injuries.
