How to Make a Skateboard Ramp Less Slippery
Skateboarding on a ramp can be dangerous, especially if you're not wearing the right protection, such as a helmet and knee guards, or if the ramp is not properly surfaced. Ramps are typically made of masonite or plywood or both, and if these materials are not coated, they can be very slippery. Coating a skateboard ramp can be done with skate ramp paint, which is a polyurethane paint specifically designed for ramps.
Things You'll Need
- Broom
- Vacuum
- Skateboard ramp paint
- Paint tray
- Nap paint roller
- Tarp
Instructions
-
-
1
Sweep the entire ramp surface and vacuum it to remove all dirt and dust.
-
2
Pour skateboard ramp paint into a paint tray. Typically, 5 gallons of paint will cover 1,000 square feet, so use accordingly.
-
3
Roll a nap roller in the paint and apply the paint to the surface of the ramp. Begin applying paint to the top of the ramp and work down. You'll only need to apply one coat of the paint, but use it liberally.
-
4
Allow the paint to dry for at least 24 hours.
-
5
Place a tarp over the skateboard ramp when the paint has finished drying and when you're not using the ramp. This will protect the paint from the elements.
