1983 Polaris Indy 600 Specifications

Polaris Industries was founded in 1954 in Minnesota and is still based there today. The company manufactures snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). Polaris used to produces watercraft as well that included small boats and jet skis. The 1983 Polaris Indy 600 was one of seven snowmobile models offered by Polaris in this model year.
  1. Physical Features

    • The 1983 Polaris Indy 600 measured 106.25 inches long and 41.62 inches wide. The ski stance extended out from the front of the vehicle. The two front skis measured 36.5 inches each. The skis were composed of steel, and the rear track was composed of molded rubber. Polaris developed a rust-proof composite material in the mid-1990s to use instead of steel for the front skis.

    Engine

    • This was the most powerful snowmobile produced in 1983. The Indy 600 was equipped with a with a three-cylinder 597cc liquid-cooled engine. The liquid cooled engine was more reliable and smoother than its fan-cooled counterpart. It also came equipped with a hydraulic braking system. The fuel capacity on the model was 7.3 gallons.

    Other Features

    • The Polaris Indy 600 came equipped with a basic speedometer and was manufactured in black with red-and-yellow striping that ran along the bottom of the vehicle. It was assembled with a standard Polaris15.5-inch smoked windshield. Hydraulic shocks also were standard on the model as well as a single halogen headlight.
