How to Surf in Menorca, Spain

Menorca, an island of Spain located in the Mediterranean Sea, is sometimes called the "Windy Island." It is part of Balearic Islands, a group of three large islands and two smaller ones off the Spanish coast. These islands receive 300 sunny days per year and, as a group, are an extremely popular vacation spot for Spanish and other European tourists. As an island in the Mediterranean climate, water sports such as surfing attract many enthusiasts.

      Find one of the beaches popular for surfing in Menorca and decide which one you want to visit. Menorca has public transportation and modern buses, so it may be quite easy to get to your surfing spot depending on from which beach you want to surf.

      Call 0034 971 363 790, the number of the Menorca Tourist Office and ask if buses go to the beach or beaches you have chosen for surfing. If so, find a bus stop near your hotel and take it to the beach. If not, ask your hotel to call for a taxi for you.

      Go to the beach where you want to surf. One good place is Santo Tomas beach, on the south of the island. Best surfing months are from May to October. Another good spot, quite close to Santo Tomas and to the southeast, is Son Bou, which has a nice long beach with plenty of space for surfing. On the north of the island, head to Cala Tirant for great year-round surfing.
