Design an NBA Basketball Jersey
-
1
Take a look at some of the most popular basketball jerseys around today (see the links in the Resources section below). Choose a team or player that you would like to represent and note team colors and designs.
-
2
Draw a basic outline of the front and back of a typical NBA jersey on a piece of paper. Photocopy this outline several times so that you can experiment with different designs.
-
3
Experiment with different designs and color schemes. Most NBA jerseys are quite simple. They include a single background color and usually a distinct second color for lettering and details. When the base color is dark the lettering and numbers are usually outlined with a thin white line. Collars and sleeve edges are usually ringed with the secondary color, and some jerseys now have narrow bands running up their sides in the secondary color.
-
4
Include a number and name on the back of the jersey. There is no reason why you need to follow the standard NBA jersey design for your personal jersey, but you should always include a number on the front and some sort of team logo. Most NBA jerseys have the team name over the chest with the number directly beneath it.
-
5
Make stencils for numbers and logos by tracing them onto a regular piece of white paper. Cut out this tracing and glue it to a piece of sturdy cardboard. Then cut out the white tracing and the cardboard beneath it. Use the empty portion of the cardboard as a stencil.
-
6
Draw your designs onto a basic white basketball jersey using your stencils. Color your jersey using fabric markers. Team logos can be purchased in patch form at several websites and then sewn onto the jersey (see link in the Resources section below).
