How to Shoot N C Rifle Targets

The North Carolina Rifle and Pistol Association, or NCRPA, provides information and services pertaining to obtaining firearms for use at shooting ranges in North Carolina. Shooting a target is a low-risk way of honing your shooting skills, and can be a unique way of relieving stress. You can use different rifles to shoot at a range, but the concepts for success will transfer to any gun.

      Turn on the safety on your rifle.

      Put on protective eyewear and ear protectors.

      Load the ammunition into your rifle.

      Take notice of any wind. If there is wind one direction, you will want to slightly aim in the opposite direction to offset its effects on the bullet's trajectory.

      Aim the rifle in the direction of the target.

      Remove the safety.

      Look along the barrel of the rifle, lining the two aiming notches up with your line of vision.

      Center this aim on the target.

      Fire.

      Examine where the bullet hit and adjust your aim before shooting again.
