1
Learn that a .22 long rifle also comes in pistol form. Some revolvers accept only .22 long rifle ammunition. This type of revolver is loaded by flipping the side lever and loading the ammunition in the cylinder. These revolvers come in single action and double action.

Notice the difference between the single action and double action revolvers when you shoot a .22 long rifle revolver. A single action means that you must pull the hammer back to cock the gun before you can fire it. With the double action revolver, you can either pull the trigger to discharge the gun or pull the hammer back to discharge the gun.

Shoot a .22 long rifle semiautomatic handgun. This gun is loaded by a clip or magazine that slides into the end of the grip. To cock this gun, pull back the receiver to chamber a round. Then the gun is ready to fire by pulling the trigger. It automatically discharges the spent round and chambers a new round.

Get familiar with a .22 long rifle (long gun/rifle). These rifles come in single-shot, semiautomatic and bolt-action type rifles. Some .22 long rifles have a tubular magazine. Some are clip-fed magazines. Some of these rifles come with heavy barrels for competition shooting.

Drop a round in a single-shot by sliding the bolt back, putting the round in the chamber and sliding the bolt forward. Lock it in position. In a .22 long rifle semiautomatic, pull the slide back and release to chamber a round. As you fire this gun, it automatically spends the discharged round out of the gun and sends a live round into the chamber, ready to fire again.

Keep in mind that bolt-action .22 long rifles come in single-shot and multishot magazines. To chamber a multishot bolt action, lift the bolt and pull back. This cocks the gun when the bolt is pulled back. Slide the bolt forward and chamber the round. It's ready to fire.
