How to Win a WWE Ladder Match

There are several specialty matches in the WWE, but at Wrestlemania X, Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon introduced the wrestling world to the ladder match. They put on an incredible match that featured high-flying stunts and intense action that was only the beginning of ladder matches in the WWE. In a ladder match an item (usually a title belt) is hung above the ring, and the winner is the contestant who climbs a ladder and retrieves the item. It takes a lot of practice, but you could win a ladder match of your own.

Instructions

    • 1

Challenge a wrestler to a ladder match. Ladder matches usually involve a title belt, but you can also put a contract or a career on the line during a ladder match by hanging a briefcase above the ring with the documents inside.

    • 2

Observe and study how many opponents you are facing. You will head into a ladder match very differently if you are facing three opponents rather than one. There are also several tag team ladder matches that can be held as well.

    • 3

If you are involved in a multiple wrestler ladder match then the best thing to do is concentrate on timing. Let the opponents hurt each other and seek the best times and opportunities to climb the ladder for the victory.

    • 4

Use the ladder for more than climbing. In every ladder match one of the participants has utilized the ladder as weapon, and it has been successful in most cases. There are several moves you can make to injure your opponent with the ladder.

    • 5

Set the ladder up in the corner and Irish whip your opponent into the ladder. It will slam against their back with a full force and usually knock them to the mat.

    • 6

Place the ladder over your head so it is facing horizontally and start spinning around. The ladder will slam into any opponent that is near.

    • 7

Do not try to climb the ladder too early in the match. You may see this as an opening, but it could ruin your chances of winning if you are easily pushed off. Wait until you are sure that your opponent does not have a chance and you have plenty of time to climb to the top.

Trap your opponent underneath the ladder or even in the ring ropes. This will guarantee that they cannot reach you and you will have full access to whatever hangs above the ladder in the ring.
