Tips for Champion Leagues
-
Number of Teams
-
Have an even number of teams in your champion league. Usually, this number will be equivalent to half the number of weeks in the season. This means that every team will be able to play each other team both at home and away during the season. Also, have a manageable number of teams in your league. A manageable number is one that is equal to or less than the number of weeks in the season. With a manageable number of teams, it will be possible to schedule all the games that have to be played. This kind of champion league is called a round robin. Physical Education Professor John Byl warns against having a round robin with too many teams. A league with 32 teams, for example, means 496 games will be needed if each team plays one another once and 992 if each team plays one another twice.
Ability of Teams
-
Have teams of similar ability level in your champion league if possible, to make the league competitive. Leagues in which match results can be predicted because some teams are far better than others are not as interesting as leagues in which any team can potentially win. If there is a large ability spread amongst the teams, consider running two or more smaller leagues instead. Alternatively, handicap the better teams; you can make the better teams play with one fewer player or award their opponents a goal or point start.
Sport Scheduling Software
-
According to recreational sport management experts Richard F. Mull, et. al., there is a huge demand for sport scheduling software. You do not have to pay a lot for the software, and in fact there are several free applications available on the Internet. You can use sport scheduling software to simply the process of scheduling leagues and tournaments. Choose software that can handle the number of teams you have in your league. Make sure that it can produce a fixture list without schedule conflicts. Opt for software that can produce a master schedule, itemizing all the fixtures, as well as individual team schedules that you can print out and give to each team or player. Choose software that can generate a league table, too. If this can be updated in real time via the Internet, so much the better. Then, everyone involved in the league will be able to see the stats at a glance and know how well their team is doing and their motivation and involvement in the league will remain high.
