How to Choose a Fantasy Football Scoring System

When you are in charge of a fantasy football league, choosing a fantasy football scoring system is a large part of the initial setup of the league. While there are many different ways to setup the scoring, you can follow the steps below to learn how to do so fairly easily.

Instructions

    • 1

Get input from other teams in the league when deciding about league scoring. The fairest way to handle it is to vote on different aspects of the rules as you go. What you want to avoid is the majority of the owners not being happy with the rules and leaving the league in protest. You can avoid that by making sure each owner is a part of setting up the scoring system.

    • 2

Decide how valuable you wish touchdowns to count in the scoring. Touchdown heavy leagues base most of the points scored off of who scores more touchdowns during the fantasy week. Performance heavy leagues still count touchdowns but don't give touchdowns as much value, rather increasing other aspects such as yardage and receptions. If you are in a league with relatively novice fantasy football owners, the touchdown heavy option is easier to handle. However, if your league has a lot of experienced owners, performance heavy leagues can be more of a challenge.

    • 3

Explain the rules to each of the owners in your fantasy football league, and answer any questions they may have. This is a vital step because if the owners in the league do not understand the rules, the competitive balance of your league could be lost.

    • 4

Look at the rules again after Week 1 of the fantasy football season. If there are any anomalies or errors in the scoring, address these errors as soon as possible and get the scoring in your league corrected.
