Look at the recent production from the players you are picking between. If a player has played better in recent weeks, that's a sign that you should start the player in the upcoming week. To find stats on players, go to the official website of the NFL. On the front page of the website, click on the "Players" link on the top navigational panel. On the subsequent page, click on the first letter of the player's last name that you are looking up. The following page shows a list of players in the NFL whose last name begins with that letter. Click on the appropriate players name to reach the player's profile page. On the player's page, click on the "Game Logs" link near the top of the page. You will then see a list of the recent games the player has played in and their stats in each of those games.

Take into account the opposing team for the upcoming week. If the opposing team is a good defensive team, that should warn you that the player you are thinking about starting might struggle. Find defensive stats on the official website for the NFL. On the homepage, click on the "Stats" link in the top navigational panel. On the subsequent page, click on the "Team" link in the middle of the page. The next page will list defensive stats that you can use to determine which teams are good defensive teams and which teams are poor defensive teams.

Become a member of the Football Guys website. The Football Guys website is a subscription based website that gives expert fantasy football advice. If you don't feel comfortable making the decision yourself, you can subscribe to their website and read the weekly projections that list each player's expected output. Using that information, your decision will become a lot easier.

Keep an eye on your lineup up until the kickoff of the game. Players can be injured or benched at the last second. If a player on your fantasy football team is injured or not playing for another reason, save yourself from getting no score from that player by switching that player with a fantasy football player on your team's bench.
