Hockey Pool Ideas

Rules & Regulations
-
Hockey pools are often organized by small groups, which means there are different rules for different leagues. For whatever hockey pool you join, thoroughly read the rules before signing up. If you were in a different league before or have never been in a league, the rules and regulations may be confusing. Have someone experienced in the new league explain the rules to you and reread the rules to ensure you know them. Also, if you're unfamiliar with hockey and are joining the pool just for fun, watch a few hockey games and learn the rules of the game itself. Knowing the rules of your league as well as the rules of professional hockey will help you avoid mistakes at the beginning of the season.
Team Selection
-
Once you join a fantasy hockey league, you will participate in the draft and select your fantasy team. When doing this, look at player stats from last year and the year before to determine your top picks based on how well they performed. You'll also want to keep up with news on player injuries as well as new players that can strengthen your team.
Home Team Pride
-
When selecting your players for your fantasy hockey pool, leave your devotion to your favorite team at the door. Just because you have been following a certain team for years and have favorite players, it doesn't mean you should choose them. Research the best players and choose them as your top picks. Having team pride and selecting players from only one real team could cripple your fantasy team.
Patience
-
When the season first starts, things may go slow for your team in the first few weeks. Don't panic and trade your players right away. Sometimes early season slumps aren't permanent and you could end up trading away quality players who need a few warm-up games to improve.
Make Trades
-
While you should have patience in the beginning, you should make trades throughout the season to better your team. Don't hold on to players that are not producing for you only because they performed well last season. Think of these players as only numbers and not actual people you have an allegiance to. At the end off the season, you should have a few main key players from the beginning but also have a very different-looking bench due to constant injuries and changes in performance. Trade players when you think someone else has a player who may perform better in future games.
