How to Set Up Football Squares

Football squares allow football fans to bet on a game's outcome. A football squares sheet comprises boxes, or squares, drawn on paper. Competitors pay a predetermined entry fee to purchase squares in which their names or initials are written. Numbers, from zero to nine, are entered randomly on the far left vertical column and top horizontal row. One of the football teams is assigned the vertical numbers; the other is assigned the horizontal numbers. A player wins if her square matches the last digits of the game's score at the end of each quarter and the end of the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a square as large as possible on an 8 1/2-by-11-inch piece of paper using a ruler.

    • 2

Draw a vertical line about 1/4 inch into the box to the right of the box's far left line. Draw a horizontal line about 1/4 inch into the box below to the box's topmost line.

    • 3

Draw nine equidistant lines vertically between the line inside the box and the far right edge of the box. Use the ruler to get a proper measurement. Repeat the process and draw nine equidistant lines horizontally between the line inside at the top of the box and the bottom edge of the box. Place the names of the competing teams on the outside of the box -- one name at the top and one name on the side.

    • 4

Have players select their boxes and pay their entry fees.

    • 5

Write the numbers zero through nine on small slips of paper, fold them over and put them in a hat or small bowl. Have a couple of fellow competitor's watch as you randomly select numbers to put in the blank squares in the far left column. Repeat the process for the blank squares in the top row.
