How to Find Out If a Yankee Hat Is Real

America has many sports icons, but few, if any, franchises can compete with the New York Yankees. The Yankee logo is known worldwide, even in places where the game of baseball is practically unknown. Due to its global popularity, Yankee team memorabilia, particularly hats, can often be counterfeited. There are ways, however, to spot whether your piece of Yankee fan gear is real or an unlicensed knockoff.

Check the Yankees logo. Although the iconic logo is well-known, some forgers may produce hats with slight variations. The classic Yankee logo contains an interlocking "N" and "Y." All hats that Yankee players wear during games are blue with a white logo. However, there are many hats designed specifically for fans that are different colors, so color is not necessarily an indicator of authenticity.

Look for the MLB logo. Major League Baseball licenses all official Yankees merchandise. The blue and red MLB logo can be found on the hats of all of the league's baseball teams. The logo is also likely to be found on the accompanying label and tag.

Check the label. The label should include the hat's size (if it is a fitted hat) along with the official logos of both the New York Yankees and Major League Baseball. Often MLB licensed hats include small holograms on the labels.
