How to Display a Game Jersey on the Wall

A game jersey can be anything from an autographed jersey worn by a sports star in a championship game to a team shirt worn by a child in her first soccer game. No matter the source, many sports fans are very proud of these special shirts and want to be able to display them in their homes. Done properly, a game jersey can be transformed from a functional piece of a sports uniform into an attractive and decorative piece of art or even a valuable collectible that can proudly be displayed in any home.

      Put your jersey on the hanger. Although you can use any type of hanger, a clear plastic hanger or one that matches the shadow box background is best. The hanger should not be an obvious part of the display. If you have purchased a shadow box designed to display a jersey, it should have come with a special hanger.

      Lay the jersey out flat. If it has sleeves, fold them in front of the shirt so that they can be seen, but they do not cover the number or any signatures. Make sure you are displaying the side of the jersey you want to see, which is usually the back.

      Pin the sleeves in place. Pin from the underside so that the pins don't show. Be careful not to damage the fabric as you do this. You may want to use more than one pin to hold each sleeve in place.

      Open the front of the shadow box. Some swing open on hinges, others have a sliding front. Hang the jersey from the inside of the frame. There should be a small, barely visible hanger inside the top of the shadow box that is made to hold the hanger.

      Arrange the jersey so that it is flat and smooth against the back of the box. Carefully pin the lower part of the sides to the shadow box lining. Use the fabric to hide the pins as you go. You may want to have the box laying flat for this step. When you're done, the jersey should be attractively displayed in the shadow box. Close the front of the shadow box.

      Hang the shadow box at eye level in a den or other room. You may want to display other sports memorabilia near the jersey, such as trophies, game balls and photographs.
