Teen Boy Room Decorating Ideas

Paint
-
Paint the room in "mature" colors and avoid anything childlike. Don't paint a mural on the wall or get too cutesy with wallpaper border. Keep it simple. Paint the room in a muted shade of blue or another favorite color. Using a muted shade tones it down a bit and allows him more easily to relax. Gray is popular for teens' rooms, and much more preferable for parents than black. To add a decorative interest to the room, a simple wide horizontal stripe in a bolder color is more than enough.
Bedding
-
Bedding should also be neutral for the most part with a solid colored comforter and solid or striped sheets. You can purchase sports-themed sheets if your teen likes sports--or whatever his favorite activity is--and use the pillowcases on the bed, and the sheets can be remade into window treatments. You don't want to overwhelm the room with the theme. Instead just add a splash here and there.
Furniture
-
Furniture is probably the most important part of decorating a teen boy's room. This is also the area where he will be most likely to give you input. A teen boy may be ready to give up his twin bed, loft bed or bunk bed in exchange for a full-size bed, and probably something that is trendy. As he will likely take this furniture with him when he leaves home, you should leave the choices up to him with the exception of looking for quality and value. As of mid-2009, futons and platform beds are most popular among teen boys.
