A Do-It-Yourself Sports Medal Frame

Today's youth athletes often earn multiple medals a year, whether from their soccer leagues, ice skating competitions or gymnastics meets. Even adult runners, bicyclists or triathletes may find themselves with a stack of race medals they are eager to display. Making your own framed display of sports medals is a simple craft project that can easily be customized to coordinate with your decor or favorite sport. Get those medals out of your drawer and show them off with pride.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the medals you want to frame. You may want to frame one or two important medals on their own to highlight them, or frame a large number of medals together as a collection.

    • 2

Open the shadow box. Remove the backing. You can use the backing included, or cover it with a piece of scrap-booking paper in a sports-themed print, such as a soccer pattern for a child's soccer medal collection. Runners can use a race bib from an important race for a custom backing. If using scrapbooking paper or a race bib, glue it onto the backing.

    • 3

Arrange the medals on the backing. Adjust and rearrange them until they are in the positions you want. Remove the ribbons, if desired, and cut the ribbon to use as background material for each medal. Alternatively, stretch each ribbon to the top of the backing and cut off the excess ribbon.

    • 4

Glue the medals and ribbon in place. Allow the glue to dry thoroughly.

    • 5

Place the backing in the shadow box. For an additional customization, glue wooden or foam sports figures, such as small soccer balls or hockey sticks, along the edges or corner of the frame to highlight the sport displayed.
