The "Scapegoat" Costume
-
There are many crazy Cubs fan costume ideas, including dressing up as William "Billy Goat" Sianis and his pet goat, Murphy, the duo behind the Cub's "goat curse" and the scapegoat behind the team's losing streak. Having been denied entrance into Wrigley Field for Game 4 of the 1945 World Series with the goat Wrigley, whose smell was offensive to many spectators, William Sianis set the famous "goat curse" on the Chicago Cubs by saying: "Cubs, they not gonna win anymore." The Cubs lost that World Series to the Detroit Tigers and haven't won a World Series since. Putting a friend in a goat costume and dressing as an old man is one way to wear this look. Dressing as an old man and dragging a stuffed animal goat is another.
The Harry Caray Costume
-
Never has there been a more beloved sports announcer in Chicago than Harry Caray. The late broadcasting vetran would begin every Chicago Cubs game by singing, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," and used tag phrases, like "holy cow." Currently the restaurants that bear his name and continue his legacy still hold crowds at capacity for major Cubs games and various other sports game viewings. Dressing like Harry Caray is a crazy Cubs fan costume tradition done every year. Harry Caray's over-sized, signature thick, black spectacles are the best way to achieve the look. Dressing in a suit is another way to look like the famous Cubs announcer.
The Ronnie "Woo-Woo" Costume
-
There is no Chicago Cubs fan that has more spirit for the team than Ronnie "Woo-Woo," which is why dressing as Mr. Woo-Woo is an option as a crazy cub fan costume idea. Dressing as Ronnie "Woo-Woo" is more acting the part than anything. It requires long hours of yelling, "Woo-Woo, yeah Woo-Woo." An example of the Ronnie "Woo Woo" cadence would involve exclamations after each "Woo!' Cubs announcer, Harry Carey used to call Ronnie "Woo Woo" leather lungs for his cheering stamina. Making a crazy Cubs fan costume based around Ronnie "Woo Woo" is easy, just get the "Woo!" down and wear a Cub's uniform head to toe. Having enthusiasm for the Cubs is really the only way to play the part.
The Steve Bartman Costume
-
Steve Bartman is one of the most famous modern stories of Cubs lore and dressing up as him is not uncommon. In 2003, Mr. Bartman went to a playoff game with front row seats along the outfield. At the bottom of the eighth a ball goes foul and as the Cubs outfielder goes after it, a fan beats him to the punch, stealing the ball from the Cubs player and the fan is essentially blamed for the games loss. Being a lifelong Cubs fan, to Bartman, the intense fan reaction was devastating and he eventually moved to Florida after being given refuge from Jeb Bush and the Florida Marlins, the team that played the Cubs that day. Dressing as Bartman is certainly a crazy Cubs Fan costume. Achieving the look is easy by wearing headphones in your hears, a Cubs hat, glasses and a navy blue sweatshirt that reads, "Barrington Basketball." Wearing a Florida Marlins sweatshirt is another way to achieve this costume idea.
