Shock Doctor Directions
Professional athletes, especially in high-risk collision sports such as boxing, require custom-made mouth guards from specialists. However, these pro guards are expensive and unnecessary for lower-risk sports, such as basketball. The Shock Doctor guard provides amateur and school-age athletes with proper protection for their level of competition.

1
Select your mouth guard. You can choose the type, color and specifications of your Shock Doctor guard. Some Shock Doctor guards protect only the upper teeth or lower teeth. Dual-protection Shock Doctor guards protect both rows of teeth. Football or lacrosse players may want to buy a guard with helmet attachments.

2
Fill a small pot with tap water and set it to boil on your stove.
-
3
Place your mouth guard into the boiling water for exactly 90 seconds. Do not boil the mouth guard for longer than 90 seconds; the plastic may melt beyond repair.
-
4
Use tongs to remove your mouth guard after 90 seconds. Run cold tap water over the guard for one second to cool it slightly.
-
5
Place the warm mouth guard in your mouth. Use a mirror to properly align the mouth guard with your teeth and jaw.
-
6
Use your fingers to mold the mouth guard around your upper teeth. Begin with the molars and work your way forward to the front teeth.
-
7
Suck on the guard for 30 seconds to make sure no air is between the guard and your teeth. Clench your teeth to properly align your guard and bite.
-
8
Remove the newly molded guard from your mouth and run it under cool water for half a minute. Test the fit of your guard again, and repeat the molding process if it feels uncomfortable.
