Shock Doctor Power Ultra Boiling Instructions

The Shock Doctor Power Ultra mouth guard is an advanced, protective piece of sporting equipment. The guard protects the teeth and jaw from serious damage in collision sports, such as boxing, hockey and football. "Sporting Dentistry" reports that mouth guards are also thought to effectively minimize concussions but there is debate to whether that is fact. Boiling the guard is necessary to properly mold the guard to your teeth. Without molding the guard, your teeth and jaw are more susceptible to damage. The guard may also rub areas inside your mouth raw, due to the lack of a customized fit.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the pot with tap water and set it on a stove burner. There should be three to four inches of water depth in your pot.

    • 2

Turn on the stove and boil the water in the pot.

    • 3

Remove the pot from the stove.

    • 4

Use the tongs to submerge the mouth guard in the boiling water. Hold it there for 12 seconds. Do not exceed the submersion time, otherwise the mouth guard may melt.

    • 5

Remove the mouth guard from the hot water and shake off any excess water.

    • 6

Place the guard in your mouth while looking in the mirror. Use your fingers to mold the guard to your teeth. Begin with the molars and work your way to the front teeth.

    • 7

Suck all of the air out of the mouth guard. Use your tongue to press the guard firmly to your teeth while you suck on the guard.

    • 8

Remove the guard from your mouth and cool it under running tap water for 30 seconds.

    • 9

Place the mouth guard in your mouth to ensure a proper and comfortable fit.
