How to String a PSE Spyder Bow

The PSE Spyder youth compound bow is considered an introductory weapon for young shooters or smaller framed individuals. The PSE Spyder uses a series of cams and pulleys to create its power like larger compound bows. While it is not as powerful as some larger models, you will still need a bow press to change the string on the Spyder model. Do not attempt to change a compound bowstring without using a bow press; you may damage the bow or injure yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the old string to see if it is worn to the point that it might break. Be careful when changing bowstrings as they can snap and cause an injury; always wear eye protection when working on your bow.

    • 2

Place the bow in the bow press. Use a PSE-approved bow press so you don't void your warranty.

    • 3

Inspect the new string for any flaws while you wax it. Waxing the string extends the string's life and makes it easier to install.

    • 4

Install the new bowstring by following the pattern of the old string, inserting the new string over the old one and then carefully removing the old string.

    • 5

Check that all parts of the bow are in proper working condition before removing the bow from the press.

    • 6

Release the bow from the bow press slowly to reduce the press' tension. Remove the bow and check to make sure it was not bent by the press.

    • 7

Test the new string by drawing it back to check that the cams rotate correctly and the string doesn't bind up. Return the string to the restring position, using control. Repeat a few times.

    • 8

Fire the newly restrung bow at an archery range to make sure it fires straight and works properly.
