How to Determine the Length of Arrows Needed for My Bow

Whether you are practicing archery for the challenge of hitting a target or hunting live game, correctly sized arrows are crucial for comfort and accurate marksmanship. Regardless of the material from which your arrows are made (and they are available in a variety of types, including wooden, carbon and metal), you will be able to purchase your choice of arrow in the correct size for your bow at any hunting or sports supply shop. Instructions

    • 1

Place the arrow on the arrow rest. Place the groove on the end of the arrow on the bow string, and hold it in place.

    • 2

Draw the bow fully, with your left hand on the face, or handle, of the bow. Your right hand should pull the string at the point where the arrow meets it, keeping the groove at the end of the arrow firmly in place on the string.

    • 3

Create a mark on the arrow with the marker at the point where the arrow meets the arrow rest. Remove the arrow from the bow.

    • 4

Measure the arrow from the mark you have made to the notch at the end. Add 1 inch to that measurement to determine the correct length of the arrows needed for your bow.
