How to Get a Powerful Serve in Badminton

Badminton is a fast-paced sport, with points scored at a rapid rate. Initiating the sequence is the serve, generated from the back line. In certain situations, it's beneficial to create maximum power from the serve, especially if the opposition is expecting a lob, or soft serve. The best way to create this power is similar to the techniques used to execute a smash shot.

Instructions

    • 1

Keep your feet planted in a comfortable position. Hold the shuttlecock with the nose facing down. Toss the shuttlecock straight up, high enough to fall within the reach of your racket and arm at full extension.

    • 2

Swing the racket back, perpendicular to your body. Strike the shuttlecock at the apex of your swing.

    • 3

Follow through completely, bringing your body weight behind the swing. Practice the motion to achieve accuracy and power to avoid hitting the shuttlecock into the net.
