How to Do a Powerful Hit in Badminton

Badminton is a sport that combines power and finesse. Often, the most effective shots are those executed when the opposition expects the opposite. Powerful hits are useful to exploit an out-of-position opponent, forcefully driving the shuttlecock into the playing surface with no chance of return. Making these powerful shots is equal parts strength and technique.

Instructions

    • 1

Know the circumstances when a powerful shot is needed and ensure your feet are firmly planted.

    • 2

Strike the shuttlecock at just below maximum apex, with the shuttlecock slightly in front of you. Your arm and racket should be near full extension relative to the shuttlecock.

    • 3

Strike through the shuttlecock, keeping your arm and torso as straight as possible. This places much of your body weight behind the shot, putting extra torque on the racquet.
