How to Generate Power in a Badminton Smash
Badminton shot selection is a skill developed from practice and experience. The decision to make a powerful shot is one that considers the possibility of scoring a near-uncontested point, while not placing you in a position to prevent a possible return. Generating power from a badminton shot is about proper body control and technique.

1
Place your feet in a position that affords you maximum stability and firmness. The most powerful badminton shots require solid footwork at their foundation.
-
2
Attempt to hit the shuttlecock as it descends, slightly below the point where you would hit it with your arm and racket at maximum extension. The shuttlecock should travel forward and down, not at chest level or higher to prevent an easy return.
-
3
Keep your racket arm and torso as straight as possible to exert maximum torque behind the shot.
