How to Replace a Huffy Backboard

Huffy Sports is the maker of outdoor basketball rim and backboard combinations. However, because outdoor backboards, like those made by Huffy, begin to break down and wear out after prolonged use and exposure to outdoor elements, they need to be replaced to maintain safe playing conditions. Replacement Huffy backboards can be purchased at major retail sporting goods stores or by visiting the Huffy Sports online store. When possible, it is important to purchase the same model or an equivalent model to ensure your new backboard is compatible with your existing mounting bracket.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the dimensions of your current backboard. Purchase a new backboard with the same dimensions to ensure it fits your existing mounting bracket. Purchasing a larger backboard with additional weight could damage your mounting bracket and create an unsafe playing environment.

    • 2

Place a ladder in position to allow you to access the bolts connected to the mounting bracket on your old backboard. If your basketball goal is equipped with a height-adjustment mechanism, lower the backboard to the lowest setting to make access to the bolts easier. If you are replacing only the backboard, loosen the screws attaching the rim to the backboard and remove the rim. Using a wrench, loosen the bolts that are connecting your backboard to the mounting bracket and remove the backboard, gently lowering it to the ground. Have a spotter on the ground to help you lower the backboard.

Attach the rim to your new backboard and align the backboard with the mounting bracket. Standing on the ladder, have a partner help you raise your new backboard into position, lining up the bolt holes with the corresponding holes on the mounting bracket. Tighten the nuts on the bolt so that the backboard is supported securely.

Place a level across the rim of your basketball goal to ensure the backboard is not tilting or leaning more to one side than the other. If necessary, loosen the bolts and adjust your Huffy backboard up or down to make it level. Retighten the bolts so that your backboard is supported securely.
