1
Ask a coach. If you know a basketball coach at the school you attend, or around your town, you could ask them for help or if they know any good trainers. Basketball coaches are a tight-knit group of people who often will recommend a qualified friend for a job. If the coach you ask happens to be a coach at your school, they also will see that you are serious about getting better.

Check with the local clubs. Places such as the Boys & Girls Club or YMCA often have relationships with people who are basketball trainers. The people at these clubs know about the trainers because they use their facilities to work with clients. The management at the club will be able to tell you which trainer has the most clients. You might want to pick a trainer with a lot of clients because this is an indication that they are doing a good job.

Join an AAU team. AAU stands for Amateur Athletic Union. An AAU basketball team will compete in tournaments that are sponsored by this organization. When part of an AAU program, one of the options available to the players might be individual instruction from a basketball trainer who works for the program. These trainers will work with members of the teams on an individual basis in order to strengthen the individual player as well as the player's team.
