How to Shoot a Better Jump Shot

"You can practice shooting eight hours a day," former Chicago Bulls great Michael Jordan once said, "but if your technique is wrong, then all you become is very good at shooting the wrong way." Although repetition is important, proper mechanics are the key to shooting a better jump shot.

Implement a strength-training program that focuses on tricep, forearm and leg strength. Increased strength will provide stability when you shoot, and will reduce the likelihood of poor form when you begin to battle fatigue as well.

Break down all components of your shot piece-by-piece, then put them back together. Focus on a good bend in your knees, keeping your shooting elbow close to your body and a nice, high release at the peak of your jump. Hold your follow-through until the ball reaches the hoop.

Get in the gym. Take 400-to-500 shots each day and pay close attention to your technique. Make sure to keep only your finger-tips on the ball with your fingers spread out.
